Hypnosis to Rev Your Metabolism!

Hypnosis to Rev Your Metabolism

www.doctoroz.com

In my own hypnosis practice, I work with a lot of people to help them loose weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle.  In particular, I specialize in helping people who need to loose weight for major medical reasons, such as those who have diabetes type 2 or who have had bariatric weight loss surgery.

British hypnotist Paul McKenna has been a guest on the Dr. Oz Show a couple times now, talking about how hypnosis can be used to boost your metabolism, control cravings, and keep the weight off.  If you have not already seen these episodes, you can find them on the Dr. Oz Show website.

New Research Shows Smoking During Pregnancy May Damage Children’s Blood Vessels

If you are pregnant (or planning to have a baby in the future) and you smoke — Please call me! Hypnosis can help make quitting so much easier for you. Both you and your baby deserve to be healthy and happy. And then after, I can also teach you HypnoBirthing so your baby’s birth can be easier as well.

Smoking During Pregnancy May Damage Children’s Blood Vessels

www.webmd.com

Dutch scientists have conducted research that suggests smoking during pregnancy has long-term effects on the thickness and flexibility of their child’s carotid arteries, large blood vessels in the neck that supply blood to the brain.

Cuno Uiterwaal, an associate professor of clinical epidemiology at the Julius Center for Health Sciences and Primary Care at the University Medical Center Utrecht, Netherlands, says, “with our findings, we think that smoking in pregnancy does play an independent role, although we know that exposure of children to [secondhand] smoke is damaging in many areas.”

“The challenge there was to show that it was really smoking in pregnancy and not exposure to cigarette smoke afterward,” says researcher Uiterwaal. “To further explore that, we did this study.”

Rehabiliation Expert Urges Doctors to Consider Hypnosis for Chronic Pain Management

Hypnosis to tackle problems of chronic pain: International expert

www.news-medical.net

Presenting at the Australasian Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine, Annual Scientific Meeting in Brisbane, visiting rehabilitation expert Professor Mark Jensen, Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, University of Washington, urged healthcare professionals to consider Hypnotic Therapy as a ‘mainstream’ treatment option in the management of chronic pain, and to discuss this option with their patients.

“Pain management for patients, particularly those with long-term illness or injury requires a considered and holistic approach,” Professor Jensen said. “Imaging studies have shown that Hypnotic Therapy influences all of the cortical areas and neuro-physiological process that underline pain. Helping patients manage pain can have a significant psychological impact. What people do to manage pain and what they think about pain, and their social environment, can all influence pain and its negative impact on functioning.”

Imagination Stimulates the Brain to Help You Heal Faster from Injury

The healing power of imagination

www.theaustralian.com.au

Doctors working with burn patients at Adelaide’s Neuro Orthopaedic Institute (NOI) use images of moving body parts and a mirror box to stimulate certain parts of the brain. An injured hand is placed in a box out of sight behind a mirror, and the healthy hand is moved and reflected in the mirror.

“The brain thinks both [hands] are moving and it changes the swelling and the healing [in the injured hand],” says Fiona Wood, a British born plastic surgeon, director of the Royal Perth Hospital’s burns unit.

She wants to take the technique a step further, using an avatar of the person on a computer, to see if giving a patient’s brain the image of their working, undamaged body parts will speed up the healing process.

“I sort of fancifully say we can think ourselves whole. We need to understand how visualization impacts healing.”

Targeting Stress Reduction Helps Prevent Addiction Relapse

Reward-Stress Link Points To New Targets For Treating Addiction

www.sciencedaily.com

Being as I am someone who knows the power of hypnosis to reduce stress levels (and that hypnosis is also known to raise dopamine and endorphin levels in the brain without any drugs) — I couldn’t help thinking while reading this article of just how much recovering addicts can benefit from hypnosis!

It has been widely accepted that stress is a major factor when an alcoholic or drug addict relapses, even when they have been abstinent for a very long period of time. It is also known that drug or alcohol use causes an increase dopamine levels in the brain, which make a person feel good. It makes sense that the mind then associates alcohol or drug use with relieving stress.

The following article discusses new findings in brain research targeting the actual mechanisms of the dopamine-CRF interaction which lead to relapse. Understanding this process could lead to new approaches for silencing this cell interaction.

“The findings suggest a new target to consider for therapeutics that might address stress-induced reinstatement,” says Danny Winder, Ph.D., associate professor of molecular physiology & biophysics at Vanderbilt University. “Such a therapy would be extremely valuable. Essentially all of the pharmacotherapies for addiction to date help people get through the withdrawal phase. There’s really nothing available to reduce the likelihood of relapse.”

(But I would say hypnosis is available as one very good option!)

Natural Childbirth – Calm and Relaxed with Hypnosis!

HypnoBirthing: Instinctive Birthing through Relaxation

http://www.midwiferytoday.com

For most women who have given birth, the thought that natural childbirth could be calm, relaxed and even pain-free seems to be a completely ridiculous idea.  It was far from their experience, and they opted for pain meds in order to get through it.  But most of these women were unaware of the power of their mind, and how hypnosis can in fact help expecting mothers achieve “the impossible” — a calm, comfortable, joyful birth experience.  Yes, it is possible!  I have been teaching HypnoBirthing classes for the past few years now both privately as well as at Emerson Hospital, and many of my mothers have experienced wonderful natural births.  The following article was written by one of my HypnoBirthing colleagues, and is very informative.  Please take a moment to have a read…
