Hypnosis to Rev Your Metabolism!

Hypnosis to Rev Your Metabolism

www.doctoroz.com

In my own hypnosis practice, I work with a lot of people to help them loose weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle.  In particular, I specialize in helping people who need to loose weight for major medical reasons, such as those who have diabetes type 2 or who have had bariatric weight loss surgery.

British hypnotist Paul McKenna has been a guest on the Dr. Oz Show a couple times now, talking about how hypnosis can be used to boost your metabolism, control cravings, and keep the weight off.  If you have not already seen these episodes, you can find them on the Dr. Oz Show website.

Past Life Regressions: Fact or Fantasy?

Past Life Regressions: Fact or Fantasy?

www.hypnosis.org

Here is an article written by one of my favorite hypnosis instructors, Roy Hunter, speaking on “Past Life Regressions — Are they Fact or Fantasy?”  Some interesting food for thought — on both sides of the debate!

As Roy says:  “Skeptics often claim that a PLR is the result of false memories, while believers claim that past life regressions provide evidence of reincarnation…  This article is written to provide some food for thought, regardless of your own views on this controversial topic.”

HypnoBirthing for an Easier Childbirth

HypnoBirthing takes the hard-labour out of Childbirth

www.thebirthingsite.com

Here is an excellent article about HypnoBirthing written by a fellow practitioner over in the UK.  Please have a read!

Jacqueline Grimsley writes: “MENTION labour and delivery to an expectant mum and the chances are her heart will begin to race at the thought of what’s to come. But HypnoBirthing helps mums-to-be overcome their fear and tension with a different way of birthing … HypnoBirthing enables mums to eliminate the ‘fear-tension-pain’ syndrome, resulting in a comfortable, relaxed birthing experience whilst being in complete control.”

Targeting Stress Reduction Helps Prevent Addiction Relapse

Reward-Stress Link Points To New Targets For Treating Addiction

www.sciencedaily.com

Being as I am someone who knows the power of hypnosis to reduce stress levels (and that hypnosis is also known to raise dopamine and endorphin levels in the brain without any drugs) — I couldn’t help thinking while reading this article of just how much recovering addicts can benefit from hypnosis!

It has been widely accepted that stress is a major factor when an alcoholic or drug addict relapses, even when they have been abstinent for a very long period of time. It is also known that drug or alcohol use causes an increase dopamine levels in the brain, which make a person feel good. It makes sense that the mind then associates alcohol or drug use with relieving stress.

The following article discusses new findings in brain research targeting the actual mechanisms of the dopamine-CRF interaction which lead to relapse. Understanding this process could lead to new approaches for silencing this cell interaction.

“The findings suggest a new target to consider for therapeutics that might address stress-induced reinstatement,” says Danny Winder, Ph.D., associate professor of molecular physiology & biophysics at Vanderbilt University. “Such a therapy would be extremely valuable. Essentially all of the pharmacotherapies for addiction to date help people get through the withdrawal phase. There’s really nothing available to reduce the likelihood of relapse.”

(But I would say hypnosis is available as one very good option!)

Why Do You Continue to Eat Something that Really Doesn’t Taste Good?

Habit Makes Bad Food Too Easy to Swallow

www.sciencedaily.com

So this was an interesting article I came across on how “habit” can make us eat something that in actually doesn’t really taste good at all.  USC researchers conducted a study at a movie theater where they gave each of the movie goers a bucket of week-old stale popcorn.  Those folks who rarely ate popcorn at the theater did not eat very much of it.  But those who had an established habit of eating popcorn at the movies were found to eat just as much of this old stale popcorn as they usually did with good fresh popcorn.  It didn’t matter to them if it tasted good or not!

David Neal, a psychology professor at the University of Southern California, says: “When we’ve repeatedly eaten a particular food in a particular environment, our brain comes to associate the food with that environment and make us keep eating as long as those environmental cues are present.”

New Milford Hospital Offers Hypnosis During Surgery

Relieving the effects of surgery with hypnosis

http://medicalxpress.com

Dr. Courtney Chambers, a surgeon at New Milford Hospital in Connecticut, says of hypnosis for surgery: “What I’m seeing is that more people are using less narcotics and using narcotics for shorter periods after surgery. To hear that people only stayed in bed for a day or two days as opposed to a week or 10 days moping around is very encouraging.”

“…hypnosis in the operating room is less common, but said studies have shown it can be effective. Researchers have found that hearing is the last sense to decline under anesthesia and that a patient can still be influenced by hypnotherapy while under anesthesia…”

Get Relief from Tinnitus with Hypnosis

Getting Relief From Tinnitus May Be Mind Over Matter

http://abcnews.go.com

Researcher Jennifer Gans says: “A technique called mindfulness-based tinnitus reduction helps people separate the ringing from the stress, anxiety and other negative emotions it often causes.”

“Mindfulness techniques are becoming more popular remedies for a variety of ailments, including chronic pain, stress, itching, addiction and digestive disorders. A report by researchers at Harvard Medical School released in May 2011 found that more than 6 million Americans are advised by traditional doctors to try meditation and other mind-body interventions. For sicker patients, these non-conventional approaches make them feel better physically and emotionally. Hypnosis is one of the more common ways to use the mind to overcome the symptoms of a variety of illnesses…”
